Dream Big | Make-A-Wish: Paddleboard Shirt - Womens Pink

In September 2010, Cynthia Aguilar attempted a solo paddle from Cuba to Key West to raise money for the Make-A-Wish foundation. On June 16, 2012, Cynthia completed her second attempt at this paddle.

The Miami Beach lifeguard, completed the paddleboard crossing of the Florida Straits from near Cuba to Key West (a 103.2-mile journey) in 29 hours and 12 minutes - setting the world record for the longest nonstop paddleboard voyage.

To support Cynthia and help raise money for her cause, we have created shirts that embody Cynthia's ambition, inspiration and her mantra: “One person can make a difference.”

On Sept 10, 2010 Cynthia began her 130 mile paddle, 12 miles off the coast of Cuba at 8am. She started her paddle with great conditions, no wind and smooth water, what we did not know is that Cynthia was heading directly into a strong Eddy current. At 5pm Cynthia was feeling the push of the currents, waves and wind but was still paddling strong.

Once the sun set at 8:30pm Cynthia was battling a fast current and was stung multiple times by man-o-war and jellyfish, at 11:30pm Cynthia stopped to treat her latest stings and felt a strong pressure in her chest, while being treated for the ten plus stings, she began to show signs of hypothermia.

During the 45 minutes it took to treat her for this, the current had pushed her back to the position she was at 5pm earlier that day. At 12 am she was not expected to complete the paddle for another two days in these conditions. Cynthia paddled her final hour making a one mile headway and made the hardest decision of her life, to get in the boat after paddling for 17 hours.

"This was the hardest choice I ever made in my life. One that I never thought I would make. I've told everyone in my life and even strangers to never stop and keep paddling. And to stop myself has been a lesson that I'm learning. We all have walls that we have no control over. This was one of them in my life. But now I'm up on my feet and ready to keep paddlin'. And to all, just be ready for the next part of this journey that has only just begun And prove that anything is possible in this world". - Cynthia Aguilar
